√ For those who maybe find the concept of 'love' too emotive or sentimental, the word 'spirituality' is a useful alternative. Spirituality is a perspective in its own right, and it also represents ideas central to love as applied to business and organisations, ie., the quality of human existence, personal values and beliefs, our relationships with others, our connection to the natural world, and beyond.

√ Some people see love and spirituality as separate things; others see love and spirituality as the same thing. Either view is fine.

√ Love in business and work means making decisions and conducting oneself in a way that cares for people and the world we live in.

√ So why is love (or spirituality) such a neglected concept in business? It hasn't always been so (of which more later).

In what ways can spirituality within an organizational context contribute to the development of Business Leadership and the workplace  ?

In the final conclusion of this paper I hope to be able to answer the following question: “In what ways can spirituality within an organizational context contribute to the development of business leadership and the workplace.” Some of my presuppositions in the build-up to the actual writing of this paper were that:

- Spirituality has many practical components, which can be employed in the workplace.

- Spiritual-based leaders might foster the learning and development, of both the individual employee and the organization in which he or she works.

- Leading from a spiritual basis can transform the overall working experience of both the leader and the people he leads.

- Spiritual-based leadership attempts to create a synergy between the organization and its employees; and

- Operating from spiritual-based values is a long-term management process and not simply another management technique, instrument or program designed for facilitating a short-time objective.

A Spiritual-Based Leader: Someone who has a spiritual view of life (including our human nature, work, and the purpose of business), and makes a conscious decision to act and lead according to this vision in his or her role as a leader, to the best of his abilities.

Spiritual-Based Leadership: A leadership style in which spiritual-based leaders, in accordance with the organization and its employees, strive to translate a spiritual view of life into instruments (processes, practices, methods, activities, programs, etc.) and behavior, that honor this vision, and will contribute to the learning and development of the organization and its stakeholders.
